One of my favore shots in all of film

The shot after Diego(Zorro) slashes Rafael Montero's face in the beginning, where Zorro is shown riding to the top of the mission, and Tornado kicks up onto his hind legs and Zorro is shown flashing his sword with the blood-red sun shown in the distance. Amazing shot.

I love that shot, too! It's perfect, and it completely sums up the sort of action/adventure/sumptuous period piece that the movie is going to be. One of the things I love about the shot is that it looks just the TINIEST bit fabricated - it looks almost like a matte painting, and the sunset doesn't QUITE look real. I love it because it looks like old-fashioned moviemaking where everything didn't have to look 100% realistic; things were allowed to be slightly larger than life just for the sake of looking heroic and beautiful. Does that make sense?

+1 for this. Here's the shot:

Such a cliched shot. Nothing 'amazing' about it.

Hey Scott,

Yes, what you say sure does make sense. A cliché? No way! It is amazing, it is beautiful, it is iconic. It is Zorro!

Best wishes,

That scene was awesome, no doubt.

I also liked the scene near the end right as Alejandro begins his fight with Captain Love. Unsheathes his sword as the sunlight glares across the entire length of his blade. It wasn't even a special effect or CGI. It took multiple attempts but it was executed by Banderas IRL.
