1900's Final Monologue

1900: You rolled out in front of me a keyboard of millions of keys, millions and billions of keys that never end. And that's the truth Max, that they never end. That keyboard is infinite... and if that keyboard is infinite, then on that keyboard there is no music you can play. You're sitting on the wrong bench... That is God's piano.

Max missed his chance here. He should have replied.

"Sometimes just have to listen, 1900. That's all most of us can do."

That last meeting didn't seem like a place for a competition of arguments. And I'm sure Max saw that as well quite quickly...

Why didn't he just go to a new ship with Max?

An easy answer would be: watch the movie again. It was not a decision of rational argumentation which one could explain that easily. But I don't mean to say that it simply was "something emotional". No, what I mean is that it was about _that_ boat. If we could change boats he might as well go to land. It'd be the same.
