Truman Show and 1900
I figure they had some similarities and difference....both are confined in some kind of place isolated from the rest of the world.

shareActually, they seem to be complete opposites in every respect except that they are isolated.
It's been a while since I've seen The Truman Show, but...
Truman is isolated by others without his knowledge, 1900 is isolated through his own doing because of his own fears.
Almost everybody on the outside knows who Truman is, almost nobody on the outside knows who 1900 is.
Truman wants an adventurous life, to explore the world, 1900 is afraid to venture out into the world.
Truman is famous but not particularly talented, 1900 is talented but not particularly famous.
Truman nearly dies because he tries to leave, 1900 dies because he refuses to leave.
Any more?
that makes sense

Holy wow!!
Your right!!
You have noooo idea what this means to me...
We are studying the truman show in english, i have to write a speech on how important images are for shaping your understanding of people and their worlds!! We are suppose to choose another 'text' to include in the speech...
I chose a script similar to the seven up series, kind of like the truman show thing (show someones life one camera thing)
But, i tihnk using 1900 as a comparison would be a stronger argument and plus, i love the moive and could draw ALOT more out of it than the script i have =D I cant beleive this thread was even created!! It just answered my prayers instantly haha THANKS!! lol

Great analysis.
However, I'd add that both of them are somehow deprived from their birth. They don't have normal childhood, and don't have real choices. 1900 wasn't raised by a loving family but by a sailor (but a caring and loving one) who could not offer him more but a life in a boat-cage; Truman wasn't raised by a loving family but by a false one (payed by media people and advertisers) who couldn't, didn't want and wasn't allowed to offer him more but a life in a studio-cage.
And only once they discover that they have a choice, their life goes opposite way. But it is mostly due to their choices, once they became free (well, as free as possible within their circumstances and their limits).
I don't know about any differences/similarities between them, but I am thoroughly freaked out by this post referring to 1900 and The Truman Show specifically- I just downloaded those two movies at the same time (and no others) yesterday without even thinking of them in relation to each other. Totally uncanny coincidence that I find this post today...
Weird weird weird.
Pure genius, Olivia. =D
