AUS accent Q

Tony Martin's character sounded funny/weird to me. Now, I'm no Aussie and bad with accents in general but was that some small area accent or just his normal speaking voice?

The Australian accent often only changes subtly throughout Australia, so I'm surprised and impressed you noticed! Unfortunately I couldn't tell you exactly what regional accent it is, the changes are so subtle that even an Australian such as myself cannot pin down and recognise one immediately.
It does however sound very similar to the accent used by the late, great Bill Hunter, though not as gruff.

his accent in this was what's known as 'ocker aussie' - if you watch interviews from about 50 years ago most people would speak like this. it's just a very broad australian accent, and if the world's media had not become so globalised, many people would still sound like this.

some of my cousins/uncles who still live in our little country town sound exactly like this. there's definitely no attempt at trying to sound like a 'UK cop'. the exact opposite in fact. hope that helps.

Yep, I'd go rural town accent. Certainly no UK in it. His boss had a bit of an English accent though, from memory.
