Why is this not available on DVD?

What is going on with the DVD release? I can't find the DVD anywhere. Anybody have an idea?

This was available on DVD, but may not be currently. Check your local Walmart, in the $5.50 (dump) bins... if I find it, I will update this.

They printed a small amount I guess. I tried to get one in 2002 from a store but they said they distributor stopped making them. I ended up paying $60 for one of the last few around I guess. I saw one on ebay selling for around $120 in 2004. That's the last time I've seen a US copy for sale on ebay. They still have the Foreign versions for sale.

It's not available in the UK - I've been after a copy for a long time.

Well, it seems I'm a lucky bastard as it is available in Poland as a bonus to Van Damme's "Lionheart" for an equivalent of 8 $.
P.S. I won't bother watching the other movie :)

Well, "Lionheart" wasn't that bad. When I was 8. I'm sorry to inform that I just paid a grand total of $73 online for a sealed copy of "Hi-Lo Country" and since I'd been watching these on ebay for a couple years it's nice to finally have some closure. Of course, I'm perfectly happy to have it so it's no big deal at this point.
Since it was one of the first to be on DVD I'd figure it's probably going to make a much-anticipated second release (like "Scarface") or it won't. It's not soon, though. And that's the problem. They are becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain, and now I no longer see the Region 2 edition online. Good luck to anyone else.

I just bought it from amazon.de (Germany). It is in English and German and only cost 6 euros. Excellent anamorphic transfer.

I'm seeing it for $90 new on Amazon and $37 used. It's amazing how a movie critics slammed costs so damn much to get ahold of.

I recorded it recently.....watched it, deleted it, seeing it once was enough. Set in a western background, with soap opera themes,

As you all surely know by now, it is available on Amazon these days, at decent pricing:
Rated: R (Restricted)
Studio: Shout! Factory
DVD Release Date: December 18, 2012
Run Time: 114 minutes

It is also streaming on Netflix, which is how I viewed it.

Generally well done, bringing out everyone's character flaws and strengths - and the deep complexities of remote rural ranch life. Most of the credit for this film's power must really go to the book's author, Max Evans.
