Questions and possible answers

Why Did it take Michael so long to find out that Laurie was still alive and to go after her?

Perhaps I overthink things but I've always wondered not only why it took him so long to find out about Laurie still being alive but how he found out in the first place.

I have a possible explanation to this. One idea I picture is that Laurie and Dr. Loomis kept in contact with one another. That it may have even been his idea for Laurie to fake her death and go into hiding. My only problem with this idea is that Dr. Loomis was a very protective individual. I can't see him keeping detailed files in his home on purpose.

So I came up with another idea, another explanation.

In H20, Loomis had only been dead a short period of time. My thinking is maybe something along the lines of this happened.

When Loomis passed away, a news story, being on the radio or television or in the papers covered his life and how he saved Laurie Strode's life on 10-31-1978. The last line being, "Funeral services for Dr. Loomis will be held at _________, Illinois on (particular date.)"

Would Laurie have driven all the way to Illinois from Northern California to pay her respects to Dr. Loomis? If so, would she have been recognized and questioned by others? Would she have sent some sort of revealing gift to the funeral home?

There had to be something. Something that triggered Michael to know or at least strongly believe that Laurie was still alive.

Maybe he had always known?

It makes it easier to think of Michael as a purely evil, mindless killing machine but too many occurrences point to him instead being a rather intelligent, methodical killer who thinks things through. We're given so little about his time at Smith's Grove through the series. Although it's much more mesmerizing and intriguing as well as horrifying to think of him sitting in a room, starring at a wall all day every day for 15 years, he most likely did other things. He probably had meals, and mandatory exercise. I imagine even though he didn't respond verbally or non-verbally that an attempt to teach him how to read was conducted.

Remember it was October of 1963 when Michigan committed his first murder. At most he would have had only a year of Kindergarten and a little over two months of first grade.

He was extraordinarily patient. So maybe he knew it was best to wait until Dr. Loomis passed to pursue Laurie. Including or excluding H4-H6, his only real adversary was Dr. Loomis. He had a goal in H1 to kill Laurie Strode and in the end Loomis prevented him from succeeding. In H2 again the goal was to kill Laurie Strode and Loomis prevented him from succeeding. In every film, while others also contributed, the main roadblock for Michael achieving his murderous ambitions was always Dr. Loomis.

And maybe that's why it took 20 years for Michael to go after Laurie. Not saying that he had always known the whole time that Laurie was alive, but perhaps that he consciously waited until Loomis was dead and out of the way to pursue her.

I realize that these movies, all Horror films aren't meant to be taken as seriously as I take them. However the movies create such interesting stories, plots and subplots as well as characters that I can't help myself. Seems all of the good horror films, the great ones raise questions that never get answered. Or maybe they do get answered but they don't provide much of an explanation or they raise even more questions.

I mean if H4-H6 never existed, what the Hell did Michael do for 20 years? - If H4 at least existed, then we know he was in a coma from 1978-1988 but if that were the case, then Laurie would have to know that indeed the body was found. She would also most likely know of his escape in 1988 as well. So scratch that idea I guess. In Resurrection they play it off as if Michael was living in a secret compartment underneath his home. Sorry, but sitting in a secret room/compartment for 20 years straight doesn't seem too logical either.

Again, I overthink this stuff. I realize that. It's fun to me though.

I'm guessing it took that long because Loomis being alive and aware of Michael's existence, since Laurie didn't stick around to see his ashes, but even the cops never found his body. Loomis spent his whole life tracking Michael, so the file and her location were safe with him. Michael's big on anniversaries. He waited 15 years for Laurie, 20 more made no difference to him. John being 17 was an unexpected bonus. Maybe John and his birthday was in that file as well, signalling Michael it was time, as opposed to the 25th or 30th anniversaries.

But really it was a convenient plot device to get out of how Michael found Laurie, a proverbial needle in a haystack and move the story along.
