I honestly believe this is the best in the series bar the original.
Great acting throughout and real suspense.
Pity they completely *beep* it up with the follow-up (Resurrection).
It would have made a great end to the franchise.
completely agree. the acting especially is what sets it head and shoulders above the rest. whether u preferred the plots of previous sequels the acting in h20 is top notch. i think jamie lee's performance is probably one of the best, if not the best, in any horror movie ever.

And, I guess I'm in the minority here but, aside from that AWFUL intro (just leave JLC out of the damn movie, please), I really didn't mind Resurrection. Thought it was kind of fun. I FAR prefer H20, of course, but just sayin'.

I agree with you, itchy. The original and H20 are the best in the series. Resurrection I thought was OK but I feel they should've ended it with this one.

For that reason alone it will always be one of my all time faves.
At the time it was so scary.
Even now with the fear factor seriously diluted there's much to enjoy.
From the terrific JGL opening via a tense bathroom break sequence all the way to the epic grand finale.
It just works. In spades. With bells on.
And, yes, it is such a shame that all the good done here was so horrifically undone in that abomination.
That having been typed there is some stuff to enjoy but it's mostly dire.
Plus it got a 15 in the UK!

This was a classic. Very scary and different premise that worked. It easily could be a scream clone.
shareFrom my perspective, this has been a favorite among Halloween fans for the longest time. So under appreciated? Maybe by critics and the dozen or so people that felt this wasn’t as great as others say it is. But it’s well regarded, as far as I know.
Even though I’ve always been a fan of it, for a while there I was of the opinion that it was overappreciated. When it came to atmosphere and set up, I thought this one was a bit lacking. Halloween 2 & 4 in particular have always been superior in this department to me. Furthermore, H20 feels like it ends too quickly by the end. That might work in its favor but I do wonder if it could have benefited from a slower pace. A more fitting, non-Scream score would have been far more preferable as well. But all in all, I see why it’s called the best movie in the series after the original. Well-acted (mainly JLC but Harnett is commendable, too), tension-filled, well-put together, and the ending is unforgettable.
