Last night, my girlfriend wanted to watch The Green Mile, but her DVD player is all messed up. Either something was wrong with the wire or the TV's RCA components are fried. So we sucked it up and watched the movie in B&W. I have to say, it actually looks a lot better! It fits perfectly for the era that took place in, which was the 1930's/Great Depression era. Like Schindler's List, for example. It's a happy accident that I would'nt complain about. Give it a try ;)

This is a bit of a coincidence because another film directed by Darabount, The Mist, was released in cinemas in colour but was avalible on home video in black-and-white because that's how the director envisioned it.

That I remember hearing that as well. But, I rather had that movie in color, though.

I don't think they still do, but they also released early episodes of The Walking Dead in black and White (another Darabont project).

How is it impossible to filter out the color?

To filter out a color, go to your TV settings go to the picture menu and turn down the color settings to zero. Turning it down to zero, makes your TV go Black and White.

Because films are either shot in black and white or color. You can't just magically "switch" one to the other.

Wow Trap. You have a lot to learn.

It’s EASY to watch a color film in black & white (the method some say above). If your TV has the ability to adjust the color settings (not all do), it’s a breeze.

Plus, back in the old days when there were NO color TVs, we still watched color films like The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind etc.

I highly recommend this with "Millers Crossing" (1990) and to a lesser extent Boardwalk Empire.

I did this on purpose. I turned off the color for Psycho 2. Decent movie but in B&W in felt much more like a continuation of the original and I think made it better.

They should have filmed the present scenes with old Paul in color and the rest of the movie in b&w.
