Anybody know????

In the credits, the name of "Boris Karloff" is accompanied with a trademark symbol. Is his name trademarked? Is this some sort of custom for some actors?

Although many actors use stage names, and we don't see a "TM" next to their chosen stage moniker (Winona Ryder, for example), I'm guessing that the Karloff estate probably trademarked his name because of its cemented association with the Frankenstein monster and other horror characters, and to prevent anyone from using that name in any film they wish....they would need permission from the estate, I imagine. Karloff's given name was William Henry Pratt, you'll recall.

I didn't know that a name could be trademarked in that way. The Czech violinist Boris Carloff was only one letter from being in trouble at birth.
