Favourite Paintings by Frida kahlo?

I was going to post this on the Frida Kahlo board but it's not that active!

The ones I feel most inspired by are:

The Two Fridas
The Bus
My Birth

What is your favourite painting or paintings by Frida Kahlo?

"I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy as long as I can paint" ~ Frida Kahlo

I would have to agree with you on the two Fridas! I went to the Tate Modern's recent exhibition of her work, I hadn't apriciated before how large the painting was. But also I think one I find most moving, (I actually had tears in my eyes when I looked at the original at the Tate Modern! Perhaps over the top I know, but I couldn't help it!), but that is Henry Ford Hospital. I think you can almost feel what she must have been feeling when she painted it.

Hey liboika! i'm glad you agree and so many pieces of artwork that I have seen have brought tears to my eyes ~ so you are not alone! and you are so lucky to of had the opportuninty to have seen the exibition ~ I totally missed it! Do you think they will show it again any where else in London?

reply

I'm sure they will again, but it's unlikely they will for a while now :o( having worked in a small gallery they have their exhibitions planned year in advance and most of the bigger galleries have exhibitions planned sometimes 2/3 years in advanced and particularly in London all they galleries aware of who's showing who! But touch wood it wont be too long! The tate modern website has still got the info up on the exhibition and it's got quite a cool link where you can look round the blue house http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/kahlo/
I was trying to find out where the exhibition was going next, but I couldn't find anything!

And thank you so much rubi_63, for you help and advice on my post. The links look really helpful. I've got a Laura Mulvey Visual and Other Pleasures out of my library and it's been overdue so many times now already I might as well buy it :o) but I'm definitely going to check out the other book you mentioned. It's so nice to have proper insightful replies so often on message boards things can get kind of rude!! Thank you!!

Hey liboika! I didn't think that there would be another exhibition for a while so don't worry! and thank you for the link! I'm glad that my answer helped you in some way also ~ and I know what you mean about some rude replies Good luck with your thesis, I'm sure you will do great!

My favorite is "The Broken Column". That painting just shouts the pain and devastation Frida felt most of her short life. I had my husband's cousin, a fantastic Mexican muralist, paint a beauiful reproduction on my office wall. It has evoked many questions and comments.
