Geoffrey Rush and Ed Norton= stinkers

Being a big fan of Geoffrey Rush and admiring his talent, I was shocked to see him plunge way back down to earth with a cringe worthy performance. His Russian accent sounded as though he was mocking them and generally the character came off as being cartoon-ish and his performance was hammy.

I have never been a fan of Ed Norton and this confirmed what I had already known. It seemed like he had walked off the set of another one of his films and onto this one. No versatility whatsoever. I guess it didn't help that they shared the screen with Molina (as good an actor as any). BTW Ashley Judd was also horrible.

Just writing to tell you that you are the first I hear saying a bad thing about Norton.
With Rush's character you have a point, but it's not to blame him for his role, his acting didn't have flaws. The director probably portrayed Trotsky that way because she wanted him to be as simple as the other great personalities portrayed. But it didn't come out very well.

For this film in particular or in general? Ed Norton is one that lacks any real versatility but still attempts to come off as being versatile. He is the untalented version of Gary Oldman (a massive compliment). Geoffrey Rush was quite atrocious in this.

Since I saw his HORRIBLE performance in "The Illusionist" I seriously doubt his talent.

I have to agree. With all of it. Molina was a bit off as well, I think. Not as bad as the others but still contrived. The acting all around in this movie was so-so for me. I loved the movie but I must step out of my rose colored glasses.

but you also need to bear in mind that edward norton wasn't given a lot to work with. his character had, what, 4 minutes screen time tops? he wasn't particularly important or given any interesting qualities or quirks.. he was just a guy who had to do his job. actors can only inject so much into a pretty dull character

* Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, did you enjoy the play?*

-rolls eyes- Ed was hardly in it....He was fine. As for Geoffrey, the accent was bad yes. But I still liked his portrayal of the character and didn't even recognise him.

I must have missed a trick.

I didn't really notice any bad acting. I thought that everyone was right on.
Edward Norton seemed genuine. Geofrey Rush seemed sincere. Alfred Molina was very passionate.

What did I miss?
