Julie Taymor

Frida Kahlo is one of my favourite artists because her art is so vibrant and arresting. She really fought for life in spite of all the pains she suffered and her paintings, some of which I had the privilege to see a few years ago at an exhibition, convey pain, suffering, chellenges and also life. This is the second film I've seen directed by Taymor and it is clear this woman is also an artist with an abundant vision of life, colour and image. She was the best person to direct Frida's bio-pic (I can only think of Tarsem Singh as an alternative). Aside from the set pieces and details in them, which I know would have been Taymor and her partner's (Goldenthal) vision of Frida's life in Mexico, her casting choices were inspired.

A beautiful as well as emotional watch.
