Will we ever see a better version of this film on disc?

I have the old DVD which is pretty pathetic. Non-anamorphic and very basic. I'd love to see a HD version of this. Anyone know if it's in the pipeline?

I've seen a number of movies get BluRay releases of late that you wouldn't expect; The Last Dragon, Hackers, Krull. I haven't heard anything re: The 13th Warrior, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. But I wouldn't hold out much hope that they'll clean it up or add any special features.

Maybe Shout or another third party will release it. I have to imagine there is some demand for this film in HD. It does have a bit of a cult following.

It definitely has a cult following on par w/those movies I mentioned. I think there's certainly a chance.

I looked for it on my PS4 to rent/ buy, and was surprised to find it. You can purchase it in HD there.

You have the region 1 dvd? That should be anamorphic. At least mine is.

This is one of the foreign releases of the movie;

If you get a region free player, it is much easier to get access to some of these films.
I have movies that were not released here due to the studio in the states having no interest. While overseas, a another studio handled the distribution and did release it on Blu Ray already.

Yeah, mine is a region 1 DVD. It's a very early release. I checked it out, it's widescreen, but non-anamorphic (it's window boxed).

I have an old Oppo BDP-83 blu ray player that I've been meaning to convert to region free. Thanks for the link on this German release. Looks good. There are a lot of films out there that never made a Region 1 blu ray release that foreign markets have. 55 Days in Peking is one of them...

I imported the French Blu Ray which is supposedly better than the German Blu Ray.
It still looks pretty bad, most of the night time scenes look awful.

This film needs a decent 4K scan restoration!

Do it Doug!!!!

This really needs a third-party release with multiple cuts of the movie and a candid documentary about the production.
