PG vs PG-13 version?

So, I have this movie on vhs and want to upgrade to dvd/bluray. I noticed that the dvd and bluray are both rated PG-13, whereas my vhs copy is rated PG. I did some research, but all I could find out about it was that certain things were "cut" to make it PG for the video release. Does anyone have any idea what the difference is for the ratings? :/ Or what scene, in particular, was chopped up? I saw this in theaters when I was young, but for the life of me, can't recall anything that would make this movie PG-13...

dougray scott uses the f word three times right before he goes after the gypsy who stole the mona lisa...it was cut for the theatrical version and was included in the dvd version...

...are you sure? i'm fairly certain that 3 f words would have given the movie an r rating.

no they gave it a pg 13 rating because of those 3 words...if you listen closely, you can hear them as henry goes after the gypsy who stole the mona lisa painting below is a paragraph i borrowed from the review of the movie at amazon.com

Is Ever After good for kids? Absolutely. The film was rated PG-13 by the MPAA for "momentary strong language." This video release has deleted the offending language (which was hardly noticeable) and has been rated PG. Other scenes include Cinderella recovering from a lashing and some swordplay. Five- and six-year-olds who have enjoyed similar movies should enjoy this fare, especially with such a modern role model. --Doug Thomas

My subtitles say "Fa, fa, fa!" I think he was just urging on his horse. I doubt any children watching this movie would even notice that, much less hear *beep* It just as easily could have been "faster" repeated thrice. The language that made the movie PG-13 must have been d*** and horses***.

Many years ago, I read a passing reference stating that it depended on HOW the f-word was used as to whether it would result in a PG-13 or an R. If it was used as a cussword, it would earn you a PG-13, if it was used to mean sexual activity, it would earn you an R.

There were no F words on my PG-rated DVD.

the three words are right after henry goes to rescue the mona lisa from the gypsy...just right after da vinci says "but it is my life," henry looks at him, looks up in the air, then gallops off after the gypsy...you can hear 3 f words in the background as henry gallops away..

check and see what version you have..i know that they supposedly restored those 3 words to the dvd and vhs, which made it pg-13...as far as i know, the theatre release was just rated pg not the dvd...look it up

Hm....I'll check that one closely, even though I never recalled an F-word or any swear word besides "horsh!t".

Btw, the DVD I have is the Australian region one, not the one rated by the MPAA. We are lenient on F words - PG films can have F words here in some occasions.

I wondered about that so I watched it with subtitles today. According to the subtitles, he's saying "Fa! Fa! Fa!", like to get the horse going. I think the PG-13 was b/c of the horse-s*** part? I dunno.

Of particular note is that the DVD release retains all of the material from the theatrical release and thus its PG-13 rating (the VHS version was slightly edited and received a new PG rating). The culprit (for the PG-13): a scene where the Prince rides off after a thief and mutters the "f" word three times (although the subtitles list that as "Fa! Fa! Fa!"). Beyond that, the picture and audio quality are excellent, although the amount of supplemental materials is not (all we get is a lone theatrical trailer).

the f words btw were not written in the script..they were ad libbed by dougray scott...

That's great and all that the subtitles say he says fa but if you actually listen carefully, especially with the volume up a little bit, you can clearly hear that he is saying the f word.

Checked it today and it's true; Scott definitely says *beep* three times at that exact moment. Not very noticeable when watching the movie (I never noticed it) but its definitely there when you listen for it. Totally unnecessary, IMO.
