We're they a Noble family? Before he married her step mother?

No. He was just a wealthy guy. I'm not sure what he would technically be called or if he would just be called a wealthy peasant but I would say he's higher than "normal" peasants but lower than nobility.

No he wouldnt be a member of the gentry or of "Gentil birth". He was a wealthy commoner.

No he wasn't a peasant, he was a commoner, but of the landed gentry- just not royal

No, he didn't have a title, he wasn't nobility. He was just a wealthy merchant.

Oh... I always thought he was a baron and so she became a baroness by marrying him. :/
