The main difference is with the remake it's closer to the animated movie, six, as a fairy tale, demands one suspends disbelief. While Ever After treats the story as a real-life happening, something that happened and as such is a more realistic, thoughtful, intelligent rendering. Our "Cinderella" here isn't a helpless female, even though thrust into a helpless situation. She's feisty, smart, and resourceful. Even in a fairy tale setting, she would NOT have needed any talking animals or a fairy godmother to help her out. My two favorite scenes were when the prince went to save Danielle, only to find out she'd already rescued herself, and in quite a badass manner. Then the final words of the movie: And the point is, gentlemen, is that they lived. Gives me a shiver every time. The only complaint I had about the movie was Drew's horrible attempts at an English accent, though I've heard much worse than that on film.
