Underrated?

I loved this movie as a kid and my youngest brother used watched it over and over again on a loop.
It seemed pretty successful at the time, at least from what I remember as a six-year-old child when every movie seemed big and significant.

And yet, looking at the trailers or posters for most modern Pixar films it's guaranteed to say from the creators of either Finding Nemo or Monster's Inc.
To me, Pixar's quality of films is inhumanly consistant, I love each one equally.

...Except Ratatoulle which was painfully dull. It combined two things I hate the most, rats and cooking. All they were missing was Fred from Youtube and graphic scenes depicting the use of hypodermic needles and I would have been out of that cinema in moments.

But I digress, why has Bug's Life been forgotten? Of all Pixar's films it the one that features least in merchandise, promotion and news features about the studio.

To be honest, while I consider this to be a good movie, I think it lacks what a "great" movie needs, and that is memorableness. There is no part that will consistently stick in the viewers' minds and make them remember it more. It doesn't have that extra quality that would push it to the foreground.
Think of it as the Hufflepuff to the rest of Pixar's Gryffindors :-)

I disagree. This is probably the movie that stuck most in my mind as a kid.

I agree-I was just in Disney World and this movie is EXTREMELY underrated!! Hardly any merchandise at all! I was mad because Flik is probably my favorite Pixar character. I'm at least happy they made all new animation for the 4D movie in Animal Kingdom. :) It was great seeing Flik and Hopper again (hey, you're supposed to be dead! XD) Ya gotta check it out-it's REALLY cool!!

Yes, very underrated. In fact, Bug's Life gets my vote as Pixar's most underrated film. It is funny, charming and beautifully animated with great characters and voice work. As for why it has been forgotten, I don't know, your guess is as good as mine.
