A Bug's Life = Western

This has probably been pointed out before, but watching ABL for about the 60th time, I realized that it's pretty much a western.

The ants are the townspeople, Hopper & his gang are the villainous curs that prey on them, and the circus bugs are the hired guns (ha!) brought in to restore justice.

OK, it doesn't completely hold up if you think too much about it, but the western-sounding theme music made me think about this.

Obviously you haven't seen all the other threads saying how this is basically a remake of "The Magnificent Seven"--a Western (itself a remake of "Seven Samurai").

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

You can compare anything to anything and find similarities.
I don't think of it as a western: just because it has similar themes doesn't mean it's a western, per se. BUT, I do agree that the music did sound a bit western, lol.

it's pretty much seven samurai, but with more comedic elements.

In seven samurai, a village has always had problems with bandits, so they go out to hire warriors to help defend the village. The difference here is that the warriors aren't actually warriors.

It seems to be based on "The Three Amigos," which itself is based on "The Magnificent Seven," which itself is based on "Seven Samurai."

The element that Three Amigos introduced to the "Seven Samurai" story, is that the "warriors" are actually performers which the townsfolk have mistaken for warriors.
