My guess is that there just happened to be a rock formation that the ants thought would be the ideal place to put the food. While I do think that Flik should've been a little more careful, I have to agree that was a pretty dumb decision to have been made in the first place, and I couldn't believe that they *still* kept the food on top of those rocks after that accident (how did they restack those rocks anyway?).
