Isnt this story just like 'Seven Samurai'?
Anyone else notice how the overall plot outline is just like Seven Samurai?

shareYes.
What's interesting is that Seven Samurai is a straight-forward story where the villagers gather the samurai, they train for a bit, the bandits attack and then the movie ends...over 3 hours later.
A Bug's Life, on the other hand, takes 90-some odd minutes to tell the same story, but with added twists and complications. And it still works. Nothing feels crammed in or added for the sake of adding another twist or complication...which is odd because Seven Samurai never feels too long or one-note.
Both films are excellent.
Well the reason why it was so much easier to pack in everything in 90 minutes for A Bug's Life is because they didn't focus as much on each of the warriors.

YES! I have been saying that the moment after I seen this movie! I have a theory that Disney doesn't have an original story idea for any of it's animated features. They are either adaptations of other works, or blatent rip offs like It's A Bugs Life.

What I found weird even kinda annoying is that none of the many supplements included in the collectors edition nor Blu-ray mentions "Seven Samurai" as one of the influences of this film, when it's clear to anyone who have seen both films that A Bug's Life is a CGI adaptation of Kurosawa's classic.
Hey at least John Sturges acknowledged the fact that his film (The Magnificent Seven) was a remake of Kurosawa's masterpiece. Why Pixar doesn't even mention it? I don't get it.
Same happens with 'Quarantine' that is a remake of the spanish movie 'REC', yet on the DVD/BD there is not a single comment about the original spanish film, either in the docus or the audio-commentary. Seems like if they were trying to hide the fact that the original idea wasn't theirs! .
Yea, and Three Amigos, and Galaxy Quest.
