I could've sworn I watched a dateline episode years aho about this exact thing happening to two girls in Thailand, Anyone have any info?

I don't think that it was based on the true stories of two girls but rather the story of many women whom the writer found unfairly imprisoned overseas, some guilty some not. It's surprising how many Americans have fallen prey to being convinced into illegal acts by handsome foreign men.

It's similar to and loosely based on Patricia Cahill.
