20 Years Since Blade

Still doesn't get enough credit for what it was, what it achieved and how it opened the door for similar movies. Plus Snipes was the character and could have been an awesome but different T'Challa.

Damn, 20 years huh? Crazy.

I still remember going to see this film. I remember it came out the same weekend as Van Damme's film Knock Off and my friend and I asked the guy at the ticket counter which one we should see. He said Blade and he was right!

Blade's an awesome movie and the first one is still the best. This was Snipes at his best.

I've heard he'd like to do one last Blade film but I'm not sure how they'd explain the fact that he's obviously aged.

Blade was the very 1st DVD that I ever purchased and I have since purchased the Blu-Ray version and it is a pleasure to view at 1080p.

I can't get my younger relatives (nephews) to get into the movie for some reason.

Snipes doesn't look that much older and with the Anti-aging technology that Disney/Marvel has pushed I wouldn't flinch at him reprising his role just once even though it might be cost prohibitive for an entire film. My biggest worries would be his signature fighting style suffering a bit and needing Snipes to "up the ante" which is par for the course.

I'd also like Marvel to bring Del Toro along, which isn't going to happen, as the two of them nailed Blade II.

The anti-aging stuff always looks a little fake to me. I've seen it done in Tron: Legacy, I've seen it done the Marvel films, and I've seen it done in Westworld and never does look quite right. I think it's okay for a few short shots, but not for an entire movie.

However, what that said, there was a movie called Surrogates in 2009 where digital de-aging techniques were used for the whole movie. It starred Bruce Willis and it worked well-enough, especially considering the sci-fi premise for the film.

I wouldn't mind seeing one last Blade film with Snipes. He's older now and would need to use a stunt double for a lot of the physical stuff, but from what I understand, a ton of the action shots in Blade: Trinity used a double so that shouldn't be a problem.

I doubt it will happen though, both due to the fact that by all accounts Snipes acted like an asshole on the set of Blade: Trinity and also--more importantly--Snipes is just not a bankable star anymore. I'm sure Marvel would rather just reboot the franchise instead of do another film with him, though perhaps they could make it a "passing the torch" kind of situation.

“A bit” of a game-changing movie. Still as cool and important as ever.

I can’t wait to see what’s potentially in store for the character in the MCU (with or without Snipes).
