Red's motives for HIJACKING the load.

Meatloaf played a decent villain, even though he was hardly in the movie that much. What confused me was, if he wanted the merchandise in the back of Crews' truck so bad, why didn't he just steal it BEFORE Crews and Randy Travis took off on their journey? He let them get several miles away before he thought to himself, "Hmm, should i go after it now, after i've already let it get this far?" That just didn't make much sense to me.

my guess is if the load was hi-jacked mid-trip, he could claim that it wasn't him....

I've just watched it also, and it's not my kind of movie either, but Patrick Swayze and the action made it worthwhile.

As for Meat Loaf "robbing" himself, it was probably easier to do it on the road because Patrick was a man with a past, and the investigation would have focused on him. Plus, it made for some cool chases and crashes!

The same question is coming up on other threads too. I didn't mind the film that much, but the issue is barely discussed in the film at all. It does just appear to be a plot contrivance, to ramp the action up. Does seem bizarre that Red would equip him with the truck, the load and protection and then promptly go out and attempt to hijack him.
