Song of Solomon

Has anyone read Song of Solomon?

I am covering it for class and would like to openly brainstorm some ideas about the book - as this a Toni Morrison related page.

One thing that has been picked up on in class is the book's similarities to various other stories - at first glance, other African-American novels [e.g
"Go Tell it on the Mountain", "Roots"] and African-American traditions [folk tales, song, oral traditions, etc]. Perhaps on a more subtle level, the book is also similar to quintessential Western narratives - e.g. the bildungsroman, the Quest tale - I also found possible similaritites with Hamlet.

Does anyone have any comments to make or anything to add?
