Nobody Liked Sethe

That was sad. When she went into that general store, the crowd of customers are all giving her cold stares. I wondered why so much social persecution until the answer came. This was a disturbing movie. It had a haunting atmosphere to it. Those quick flashback memories of her life under slavery added to that. Oprah though, gives a standout performance.

The more I study it, the greater the puzzle becomes.

I agree. Oprah did a great job. I mean, what Sethe did, though she didn't want her children to suffer, was beyond horrible and everyone in her town despised her for what she did. And yes, it is unfair that they're shunning her all those years. At least, they seemed to not have showed any hostility towards Denver when she decided to venture out on her own.

This movie is supposed to be disturbing, the history behind it is. Infanticide is ugly, but so is slavery, and I'm sure this happened many times over the centuries American slavery existed. The main reason I don't want to be a parent right now is that I don't like the environment they'd be born into. could you imagine the opposing emotions a parent would feel loving the life they created but knowing that child was born into slavery?! I gathered though that many people in the town felt sympathy for Sethe and Denver rather than hate. The disgust they showed is understood though.

Slavery was ugly and it took a real toll on lives. Beloved made me look at the ugly side that isn't heard about. Oprah, gave a good performance, but all I saw was Oprah and not Sethe! I repeat, the film would have done better if Oprah has not played Sethe!
