Beloved is proof of racial inequalities

I just read this novel and saw the movie in English class at my school, and I'm fascinated. The way that black people are portrayed could be described as ignorant and animalistic--for instance the beastly, carnal behavior of Sethe's lover, Paul D. I was horrified, and yet at the same time, comforted, I guess.

My family and I are members of the Thomas Robb Ministry, where we believe that each race should stay separate (it's NOT racism!!! There IS a difference!). There are few works of art that prove this to be more true. Beloved was the product of a white man and a black woman (if I recall correctly), and thus had several abnormalities. Blacks in general in Beloved are, as I said before, either ignorant and animalistic, or the victims of a society where it simply won't work to have two separate races mix. It could be seen as a metaphor for modern society, I think, because if you do the research, you'll discover that a lot of the crimes in America are from races and heritages mixing together. Blacks, whites, Jews, Mexicans, and what have you are better off by themselves. I know this is somewhat controversial, but remember the Holy Bible: one must love their heritage, like Jacob...not despise it, like Esau.

Anyway, an interesting read and an interesting movie, and I've e-mailed Pastor Robb about both for use in his sermons.

what?

ditto.

You know, I'm not really trying to go there on this topic with you, but...

If I am correct, isn't Pastor Robb the National Director of the "Knights Party" whose web address is in fact kkk.biz??????

Some mess is so crazy, it is not even worth the time to address it. This thread is the sheer example of what happens when you present an open forum to the world. You get all kinds including this mess......."Beloved is proof of racial inequalities". And after you read the thread, all one can say is crazy. Sad but true.

It is a fictional drama. It proves that some can read anything they want to in acting that mocks people who are not "cultivated" to behave in ways that get interpreted as smart enough to hang out with an idiot racist that thinks among other stupid things that racism is only self-declared.

PS - didn't you notice the dirty white chick that *acted* animalistic?

reply

Definitely a cover for WHITE SUPREMACISM!

i agree with darkeyes and am completely blown away by the ignorance of the original poster...wow.

I'm gonna have to go with pianocellolove on this one....probably easier to go bang my head against the wall than to even address this ignorance.

Beloved was not the "product" of anything. She was the child of two African slaves, Sethe and Halle.

The message that the Thomas Robb Ministry is spreading is an example of why there is so much confusion and anger in this world amongst the races. Has anyone seen their website?

"My white brothers and sisters - help spread the good news of White Christian Revival! - Pastor Thomas Robb"

See for yourselves

http://www.christianidentity.tv/main.htm

If, as the website says, we are living in the end of times, then I pity the followers of this church because the life they lead is a falsification of what it means to be a Christian. At the core of any religion are the ideals that a member of a faith must have love, understanding and have the desire to lead a good life, rooted in the beliefs that they hold.

This church however does not promote any of the above, except amongst it's own "race".

It's disappointing to see, but as someone once told me, it takes all kinds of people to make this world what it is.

I want to commend everyone on this board on not turning this topic into a flame war. The original poster is pure trouble; the rest of you are obviously intelligent, sensitive people who have no interest in getting worked up over a bigot.

Peace and love to all faiths and races... from an atheist who doesn't believe in race.

Wow. I find it interesting that I (a Christian) am reading these posts, and agreeing whole heartedly with the self-proclaimed athiest, while shuddering at the post of one who claims to be following a Christian doctrine. Yikes. Thank you Contentcoordinator. I only wish more Christians came across as loving and accepting as you just did in this brief post. And you, Radical Dreamer, should truly be ashamed of yourself.

My husband looks like Rutger Houer.

Yes. It definitely takes all kind and that includes crazy people.Stay away is all I can say.

I HATE TO BURST YOUR IGNORANT BUBBLE BUT YOU ARE RACIST. Instead of wasting your time posting such comments why don't you go make some very white looking babies and help further your cause along. Teach them the same ignorant and racist values that you and the rest of YOUR KIND believe in. It really saddens me that there are people like you in this world...

Regarding that goofball comment that races should stay separate, I once had a few dates with a person who felt that way. I found this out when we were having a conversation regarding some of my friends who were supposedly of a different race than myself. She told me that I should not mix with other races because I would not understand them. So I stopped calling her. When she called me, I said I would not call her any longer due to her beliefs, because she was of a different race than I. She didn't know that my grandmother was native American, and had assumed I was 100% European caucasian, and that I merely had a tan. Isn't that truly ignorant and idiotic, much like the statement that initiated this string? With that attitude, I'd have to only congregate with those who were 1/2 Italian, 1/4 French and 1/4 native American, if there be any such mixed race around my town other than my brothers and sisters. Anyway, it was good to find this out before any deeper relationship.

reply

Isn't that something? I can relate because my family is from the caribbean, but also spain, puerto rico and indian. Black nationalists readily accept me until they find this out about this, as if by me being who I am, I am betraying them. Some White Nationalists have said I am somehow better than American or African blacks because of what I am.

If black nationalists didn't know I was heavily mixed, I'd be "one of them", if white nationalists didn't know I was heavily mixed, I'd be "a dumb ignorant yadda yadda" and whatever else they call black people but the truth is, we are all one in the same.

That girl wouldn't of known what you are unless you told her which goes to show me that nationalists would readily "mix" without checking racial history. I am led to believe they have (unbeknownst to them) muddied their 'race' with people they suspected to be "pure".

We are all mixed, and only someone living in a bubble could be "pure". They would have to isolate themselves from society like Japan unsuccessfully tried and besides all of that, our blood comes from the same indigenous people from the dawn of civilization.

reply

you're a real peach. and god how i hate peaches.

reply

Well, I like peaches just fine, but I dislike IDIOTS who make comments that they think are insightful or great satire, but are only STUPID.

reply

so what's your deal? it's not like i was responding to your drivel of a post. i was responding to RadicalDreamer. i looked at the thread several times after your post, thinking maybe i'd accidentally hit reply on yours instead of RadicalDreamer's but no, it clearly shows that my response if for RadicalDreamer. so blow me.

reply

ha ha. I love it!

reply

Ok, I am from Texas, and sadly, around my family you are sure to hear many such comments about "different races shouldn't mix" and other racial comments that I don't care to repeat. But most of these comments are not being broadcast to world via the internet....
I CANNOT believe that ANYONE could post something like that! As a "white" person, I totally agree with the poster that said that the original post is a version of white supremacy! As a Christian, I am shocked that anyone could mention the Bible in the same post that he/she compares a MOVIE ABOUT FORMER SLAVES TO MODERN SOCIETY!!! What is the deal??? If the characters in Beloved acted "animalistic or ignorant" it was because they were treated like animals BY WHITE PEOPLE!!
Oh good grief! Crimes in America are committed because races mix?? If you are of mixed ethnicity are you inherently criminal?? Ooh, this makes me extremely angry, and it gives me a creepy-crawly feeling... People's actions are not a product of their skin color or "race" as it is called. People's reaction to members of a different culture or ethnicity is entirely their own choice.
-- I know this is somewhat controversial, but remember the Holy Bible: one must love their heritage--

It's not controversial, it's STUPID. I remember my heritage... Members of my family faught for the Confederacy... I am a descendant of Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis... But I DON'T LOVE IT. I don't care if the Bible mentions "loving your heritage". People like this poster make me ashamed to be white... If I had a choice of being "better off" with only whites like this poster, I WOULD MUCH RATHER MIX WITH THE BLACKS, JEWS, AND MEXICANS!

Please don't use motion pictures as an excuse to spread bigotry.
