JarJar Abrams is like a virus infecting every franchise he touches. He has a team of writers, Orci and Kurtzman, who write most of his movies like Mission Impossible 3, Mask of Zorro 2, or New Star Trek. They also write Michael Bay's Transformers movies. They're full of bad qualities and writing is usually the worst of the worst. Lots of people criticize Michael Bay. But they defend Star Trek or even Star Wars and others. Why do people not recognize the connection? They're all the same kind of awful.
Orci and Kurtzman are the worst. It blows my mind how much work they get. Sometimes the simpletons with money think they are looking at a savant but they are actually a genuine idiot. Like Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich, Tim Burton, and Greg Berlanti. These guys create cancer.
But they make money and people like their movies so I guess I'm wrong.
I have liked some JJ stuff. I enjoy the Cloverfield movies and I liked High 8. So while I am pissed at him for lots of stuff lately, I can't quite put him in the same grouping. Closer, though. Closer and closer.
I mean, I get that he's in a bit of slump right now, but he's made a lot of great movies. Sleep Hollow is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's truly excellent. Beetlejuice, Batman '89 and Edward Scissorhands are also all great.
Big Fish was an interesting film, as was Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Hell, I even thought Dark Shadows was kind of fun.
Even if his films aren't to your taste, I'm not sure why you wouldn't at least have some respect for Burton and his work.
Given that I like Edward Scissorhands (and some enjoyment from Mars Attacks), I officially exclude Burton from my above list. I do not like him, though. He made the list because, to me, he fit the mold of being thought of as so much more than he is. But he really doesn't fit the group. I admit I got carried away.
On Beetlejuice: I loved it when it came out but it suffered every time I rewatched it. Liked it less and less until I started hating it. I wish I had only ever watched it the one time in the theater. I would have held it in fond memory.
