Bugs Life ripped Antz off

reply

they both came out in the same year. people dont see a movie, like the idea, nad rip it off in under a year. ESPECIALLY NOT A CGI MOVIE!

reply

the real question is which film was better...

i must say i thought Antz was a much enjoyable film. maybe cause it had more humor and being 15 i liked it better then a bugs life which i thought was rather boring.

It doesn't matter who copied who. ANTZ blows that other movie out of the water any day.

I prefer Antz. I've only seen A Bugs Life a couple of times when I was younger, but I don't remember liking it all that much.

Hmm... no offense to Antz lovers, but I don't like Antz at all. I prefer A Bug's Life. Oli dani, you say A Bug's Life was boring. In what part was boring? I say Antz has much more boring parts.

Its cinematic release was somewhat overshadowed by Pixar's A Bug's Life, which was also a computer animated film based on the adventures of a misfit ant who falls for the princess of the colony. Antz is not as child-centric as A Bug's Life. It deals with slightly more complex themes, including conformity and war, and its imagery is less colorful and more realistic; for example, the ants' coloration is orange-brown rather than bright blue and the ants in Antz have six extremities (four legs and two arms) rather than four. The film shows the transition of the colony from an autocracy to a democracy. General Mandible's plan to "wash away the filth of the colony" is reminiscent of Adolf Hitler's "Final Solution". There are also parallels to Marxism.

Antz is more profound but A Bug's Life is more enjoyable. It does not fit to listen to all those people like Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Sylvester Stallone, Anne Bancroft, Gene Hackman, and Christopher Walken as the members of an ant society. And Woody Allen drives me nuts too!

A Bug's Life is definitely the superior film. But Antz doesn't really suck.

Personally, I don't buy the "Antz is better because it's more adult" approach. I mean, sure, Jaws 3 is more adult than Snow White. But is Jaws 3 a better movie than Snow White? I can see the rebuttals now-- "you're talking about a particular case, blah blah blah. " Well, I still think A Bug's Life is better. I mean, it's hard to empathize with Z in the film. Sure he's an outcast, but he's Woody Allen--he seems perfectly comfortable making wisecracks. And sure enough, his witty asides overshadow most of Z's other character-developing scenes. Flik is a much more real character.

But the one thing I liked better about Antz was the score. When Z first looks out over the colony...Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell managed to produce an excellent score for an okay film.

I agree with you completely.
That was a very good post.

Antz is easily the film I prefer out of the two, though I do appreciate how A Bug's Life may hopefully inspire younger audiences in enjoying Seven Samurai and the like some day.

I saw both Antz and A Bug's Life when they came out, I was nine or ten at the time, I found that A bug's life was boring and dull, even with the caterpillar guy, Antz on the other hand, I found great, and nearly ten years later, I still enjoy it, more so then probably any other animated movie, maybe even Shrek, which I have seen way too many times. (They showed us Shrek almost every year at school before summer or the day before a vacation)

Aargh, I don't know which! Maybe I'm too loyal to pixar or maybe they're just too different.

Sadly I don't think that will happen; the makers don't really credit that film and most people cannot be bothered to do the research.

yeah. check it:
http://www.ifc.com/film/film-news/2008/07/most-slanderous-cinematic-sl ig.php

"According to JHM, Seinfeld and Lasseter met each other at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2006, where Lasseter warned the comedian against dealing with Katzenberg, referring to his experience of having the idea for Pixar's "A Bug's Life" aped by Katzenberg for "Antz," his first foray into CG at DreamWorks. Since he was knee deep in the production of "Bee Movie" by then and considered Katzenberg a friend, Seinfeld segued from his duties as a screenwriter to become an air traffic controller, directing animators to show the plane barely missing the Lasseter-like stand-in with the flowery shirt before coming in for a safe landing."

I'm normally a big fan of Chris Weitz, but I think A Bug's Life was far better than Antz. (As I remember, because I haven't seen either of the movies since I was a small kid)

A Bugs Life is good but my vote goes to AntZ cause it deals with real issues like war and puts a humourous spin on it. Also I love Z's sarcasm. Sorry
