To what you may believe. I have seen three of the four CGI Dreamworks Films. These are "Antz" (1998), "Shrek" (2001) and "Shrek 2" (2004).
I have to say that "Antz" was the best one. It had a true story going for it and really funny bits like Z getting stuck in a plastic bag with the Princess. I didn't even despise Woody Allen. He was great.
"Shrek" didn't quite work the same for me. Yeah, funny gags. Pretty average to me.
"Shrek 2" was unbearable. Too many modern references e.g. Burger King, Starbucks Coffee.
"Shark Tale" seems worse than "Shrek 2". What is with Will Smith. He is ruining Eddie Murphy's career. He imdiates Eddie Murphy's behaviour. The worst thing is many people will think Will Smith is a genisus. Bah.
I have to say I enjoyed the Shrek movies more than Antz - although the second Shrek wasn't as good as the first. It didn't have the same feel to it. But when are sequels ever as good as the original?
Shark Tale was possibly the worst animated film I've ever seen - even my eight-year-old brother thought it was crap.
But I preferred the fairytale theme of Shrek to the political thing going on in Antz, although the humour worked for me in both films. Shrek 2 took it a little too far and lost some of the magic, but I definitely wouldn't say it was unbearable. I guess my list goes:
1. Shrek 2. The Prince Of Egypt(I know it wasn't mentioned, but I recommend you see it, it was brilliant.) 3. Antz / Shrek 2 4. Shark Tale (I hate even including this crap on the list)
Nope can't agree with ya there, I place Over the Hedge on the same forgettable level as Shark Tale and Madagascar. I would also put ANTZ near the top along with Kung Fu Panda. I was a big Shrek fan but it's sort of become a bit over-sacturated now (3 films and counting), and with everything throwing out pop culture references and topical comedy into their puns these days it's actually kind of ruined it a bit for me. I liked the inclusion of Prince Of Egypt by the earlir post, that was a good film too!
