Where Would You Rank This Among Other CGI Dreamworks?

This is the only CGI Dreamworks film that has been released that I haven't seen, I was wondering if it was a good film. Was it like Kung Fu Panda or How to train Your Dragon, a movie with a great story and heart? Was it like Shark Tale or Bee Movie, a pop cultre/potty humor-ridden disaster with a lacking story but several big-name actors/actresses? This is how I rank the films:

How to Train Your Dragon
Kung Fu Panda
Shrek
Monsters vs. Aliens
Madagascar 2
Shrek 2
Over the Hedge
Flushed Away
Madagascar
Shrek 3
Bee Movie
Shark Tale

Where would Antz be on this list? near the top? The bottom? Middle?

Personally, I think it's one of their best. I remember seeing it when it first came out and was very impressed. I mean it hasn't aged well in the fact that the animation is pretty dated looking. But it has a great, clever story and in my opinion has some of the best casting choices for an animated film. And it doesn't talk down to the children. In fact I think it might be one of those films that adults like more than kids. And it has a terrific music score and has Woody Allen as the lead character as an ant. What's not to love?

Back when this came out I remember not being a giant fan of Pixar. I thought they were a bit too simplistic and "kiddy" for me. This film combined with the first Shrek film and Chicken Run showed a smarter, more complex style and had great ideas. But unfortunately the quality jumped down several levels when Shrek 2 and 3 came out and Monsters vs. Aliens and Madagascar. They were just obsessed with the "pop culture" jokes thinking that's what made them successful.

And then Pixar garnered my interest and full support with The Incredibles and continued with Ratatouille and the genius of Up. But Kung Fu Panda was a step in the right direction and I greatly enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon. So I'm hoping DreamWorks has taken a hint from Pixar to be a little more daring and not worry so much about being edgy or "current".

But I still think Antz is great.

Thanks about that. Yeah I agree with what you said in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs. Dreamworks had some really good success early on with shrek and Chicken Run, but started to decline a bit in terms of quality with movies like Shark Tale, Madagascar, Bee Movie, and Shrek 3. However, more recently Dreamworks seems to have regained its footing with Kung Fu Panda, Monsters vs. Aliens, and How to Train Your Dragon. PIXAR's Bug's Life was a little kiddy for me, but almost the rest of their movies have been spectacular, heart warming films, and I can't wait for Toy Story 3. I wonder how Shrek 4 and Megamind will be? Well I just watched the trailer for Antz, it looks pretty good. Judging by what you said, I'll probably go see this now.

This is probably the 3rd/4th best DW movie. Very good story and solid animation (for 1998)

Well, I finally saw this movie, it was a really great film. The animation wasn't that good, but I guess for 1998 this was innovative. Nice story, great cast, enjoyable for all ages, in my opinion better than A Bug's Life. And the critics would agree, Bug's Life got a 91% on the Tomatometer, which is really good, but Antz scored 98%, which is a lot better.
