I especially like that Mike Myers took such a risky role.

I agree. Myers was great and the movie overall was very good. It's been a while since I've seen it but I think I'll go back to it soon.

It has supposedly a way better director’s cut, much sought after, I’m going to watch soon.

I may need to rewatch it, but I found it underwhelming at the time. It was like a cliched, cookie-cutter, Hollywood reimagining of the tail end of the disco era. A film I find to be a far better take on the time is The Last Days of Disco. But again, while I've watched and rewatched Last Days a number of times, I only watched 54 once, when it was new, so perhaps I'll find new value in it if I see it again.
