Has anyone seen this movie
Well has anyone. its a godawful movie
share[deleted]
You are retarded. 54 was retarded and so are you.
sharei liked 54 a lot. it was entertaining and with all the colors and music, and with Neve and Mike. it was good all around
share[deleted]
I liked it a lot for the fact it was a real story because of the club. It was close to the real story.
shareI HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE MORE THAN ONCE AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT IT IS A REALLY GREAT MOVIE. NOT ONLY IS RYAN PHILLEPE REALLY SEXY, BUT IT SHOWS A LOT OF WHAT REALLY HAPPENED BACK THEN, AND I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING.
AND FOR ALL OF YOU WHO THOUGHT IT SUCKED, YOU SUCK
taking this a little personal, aren't you? This was a terrible film. Mike Myers should be embarrassed by his lame portrayal. Salma Hyak is beyond brutal. Can't believe they green-lit this project. You can't polish a turd...
sharehehe really.... thats what you think. i havent seen many movies with a budget and cast that were this bad. 54 is so obvious and cliche in every minute of the movie, i honestly had trouble finishing it. im not gonna spend anymore time thinking about it so ill just say if you havent seen it, dont even bother theres really nothing there at all. i would rather watch almost anything than this movie again. ohh man is it lame. also the acting sucked ass, neve cambell what a joke.
The worst movie you ever saw? Well, my next one will be even better!
.
this movie was TERRIBLE... maybe i have high expectations after watching Boogie Nights.. but this movie was total crap and everyone sucked except Mike Myers

The movie itself was very good the only bad things in it were that Neve Campbell didnt have a very large or important role, I mean she spent the first three quarters of it either sitting in the VIP room, walking into the club or laughing! I thought they would have done more with the Julie Black charectar. And thge other bad thing was Salma Hayek's extremely bad miming, she looked a little silly singing at the end on New Years Eve but the actual song was fantastic! Apart from that excellent movie!

I'm with you on that one, tacobell! :)
I thought the movie was flat and unrealistic, the characters shallow - but obviously the 70s were full of good looking people, so who cares. :)

i agree totally.
i loved the film, mike myers was wierd and wonderful as usual!
i didnt think much either to salma's miming!
I found the movie to be very entertaining
shareHey.
So I haven't seen this film, but I have to say.
My parents were incredibly close friends of Steve Rubell. They watched this film and were disgusted with the characters, the set, and almost everything else.
So as far as I know, if you're looking for an accurate portrayal of the infamous 54, this is NOT the place to search.
I don't know if you will be back here or not, but I wanted to ask you what kind of person was Steve Rubell? Perhaps your parents have some insight? I read the book about the club The Last Party and found it quite interesting. Also, did your parents ever get the chance to see the club in its hay day? Thanks.
shareHey, sorry for such a long delay. I forgot I posted here, lol.
Yeah, they were really close with steve Rubell. They were permanent names on the VIP list at the club and went there often. My mom has actually never seen NYC except to visit 54. They were there for Diana Ross' birthday party and met her. My dad says that the entire room was about waist high in styrofoam popcorn; just what they decided to do for her birthday. My parents also met Mick Jagger and some of the other Stones, who were just hanging around at Stevie's house one night when my father went to speak with him on restaurant business.
Their biggest complaint with the film: My parents said that they accentuated everything negative about Stevie, and in fact fabricated on some things, and ignored all his great qualities, including his extreme generosity and sincere kindness, especially when it came to his friends. My father says when they speak of him, "He was an incredible man, and it's a shame that he died."
As an example of the flouted great qualities of Steve Rubell... he paid for my parents' wedding reception as a gift, as they would not have been able to have one otherwise. So. I'd call that pretty damn nice.
If you come back, and have any other q's, just ask.

Granted, I don't have a relative that knew Rubell personally. However, as caring as he may have been to his inner circle of friends, he was notoriously obnoxious, dismissive, and arrogant toward strangers.
Archived interviews attest to his coining of the phrase the "gray people", which referred to anyone who wasn't either physically beautiful or possessed such enormous celebrity they warranted recognition.
Studio's infamous "velvet rope" door policy was essential to the "tossing the salad" environment of diverse clientele. However, for Rubell to stand outside (as he would do periodically) and deliberately insult people was clearly over the line and not a quality one would find in a person motivated by "generosity and sincere kindness".
Lynne Barclay and Marc Benecke, although affectedly haughty, at least possessed the ability to gaze directly past people, rather than actively attempt to degrade them.
Al Corley (later “Steven” on TVs “Dynasty”) was one of the last doormen. He joked that, had either Rubell or Schrager not owned the club, they never would’ve made it past the door.
That said, I agree Meyers’ portrayal stunk. The character came off as a two-dimensional caricature. Despite the nearly unanimous critical praise of Myers’ uncanny resemblance to Rubell, that observation was completely lost on me. While not exactly handsome and frequently unkempt, Rubell was hardly the freakishly ugly, overweight slob in the film.
mmmmmmm this was quite a weird movie. The story sucked but the setting and the atmosphere sucked me into the movie and kept me watching it. It's definately above average, so the average grade should have been higher in my opinion!
share... I've seen much, much worse! 6/10.
Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back...
This movie is great, its real and it didnt hold back in the sense that it showed a lot of what "aparently" went in the club. Mike Myers played a fantastic Rubell.
i really like this movie!
I like this movie, 7/10. Ryan played a fantastic role :)
share54 the club was just a little before my time, but I lived through the NYC Limelight, Soundfactory, Twilo, Roxy scene in the late 80's/early 90's, and if you've been there and done that, this movie pretty much captured the feeling of those clubs - the atmosphere, drinking, drugs, darkness, secret basements, late nights, alternative lifestyles, the after effects, etc..... I actually miss those nights when I watch this movie. The 54 theme playing in the background is great, and always makes me think of that time in my life. Great movie for me.
shareIt was entertaining to watch. Studio 54 seemed like such an awesome nightclub.

All I know is what my parents tell me--I'm not at all a fan of the 70s culture or anything, so I don't know. I never met Steve, obviously. But I know some of the things he did for my parents saved their futures, and I'm grateful to him for that whether or not he tossed the "grey people" out of his club. They don't speak only good things of him--they tell all the anecdotes of his eccentricities, his crudeness, his downright insanity sometimes. But they do remember him as a wonderful person. I don't argue the friendship.
So I don't know what to tell you other than that.
