Myers great, movie is only fair

You totally forget that the actor playing Steve Rubell is Mike Myers- which is actually quite a statement.

Other than that, this movie had it's share of disappointments. A much better movie on this era would be the "Last Days of Disco", a much more engaging and rich portrayal of pop culture and the mentality that permeated that period. "54" tries a little bit too hard to be larger than life.

I agree, this film had the potential to be better. More exciting, more drugs, violence, etc. It lacked climax and did'nt have much of a plot. Mediocre film.

It did have a plot !!! Wake up !!! It also had a climax....the story was about the rise and fall of Steve....he lived his life like a "Candle in the Wind " was one of the many messages that you must have missed. Also the parts showing Shane's family living the simple/clean life in Jersey contrasted against the " Anything Goes " liberal life of New York City....The climax was the fall of Steve and the fading out of Disco....and Shane moves back to the simple/clean life in Jersey with Julie Black.

This movie would be about the rise and fall of Steve Rubell. The problem is, he's not the central character. Instead the movie focuses on a bunch of average Joes who are lucky enough to get employed at Studio 54. As a result, the movie is not as compelling.
