Just watched the movie and it was awful. It looks from these boards that the project was mismanaged by the studio - how else do you shoot so much, then discard it and add content never intended to be there? But I'm surprised no one has talked about how bad the music is. I just don't understand why they didn't use genuine musical tracks from that day?! Whether you like Disco or not, if you're going to tell a story about Studio 54, creating background music that is reminiscent of the era but not the music of the error lends an air of inauthenticity to the project, imho. Meyers was like I've never seen him. He and perhaps the entire cast simply were not served well by the handlers of this car-wreck.

There were only a few tracks that were new/re-records, most was from that era.

The original version of this movie, (before the studio dismantling) featured a different soundtrack, that was actually original 70's era recordings. That new, cheesy music was added along with the new, cheesy re-shot scenes.

I really like the new cut, but did anyone else have issues with the VOLUME of the music in the director's cut? I have rented it twice to watch, and both times, the music was SO LOUD that I kept having to adjust the volume. Very annoying. It almost made it unwatchable for me.

The directors cut was assembled independently, I believe, rather than by the studio, using state of the art techniques. Maybe the sound isn't balanced perfectly, but as far as the nightclub scenes go, it seems realistic, as the music is pumped up loud in these places. I thought it added another level of realism, just like the grainy quality of some of the scenes. I have no complaints about this directors cut, as I have waited years to be able to see it. I'm just happy that it exists.
