Aldrin's fingers

Near the end of episode 1 we see Buzz during an EVA during Gemini XII - and the camera zooms into his gloved fingers where there is some kind of coruscating energy scintillating over his fingertips. No where have I heard reference to this - either in the mission transcripts or subsequent materials. Any ideas?

Actually, there was a previous thread about this. Aldrin said when he rubbed his gloves together, there was "static electricity between them."

It's in the transcript at the top of page 145.

I have another question about the same scene, which was apparently all CGI: It shows Aldrin's helmet turning when he turns his head. Is this realistically portrayed? I have no evidence to support this, and I'm not sure why I do, but I always assumed that the helmet wasn't able to rotate with head movements. Anyone know for sure?

Buzz wore an ILC-Dover / A7L Apollo suit - which has no helmet articulation. The A7LB (NASA's designation - referred to as the A9L by manufacturer ILC-Dover) had some helmet articulation - implemented "to provide additional visibility while driving the LRV".

Actually, for the EVA being referred to where Aldrin is shown on the Agena (Gemini 12), he was wearing the G4C suit manufactured by the David Clark Company. DCC manufactured the suits (3 variants) for all the Gemini missions, including the EVAs. The ILC Dover suits didn't come into use until the Apollo program.

The Gemini suits were based on the X-15 high-altitude pressure suit design, and based on EVA photos I've seen, it appears the helmet was able to rotate slightly.

Thanks, budman57! I'm surprised I didn't catch that. Good to know that at least some of the suits had helmet articulation. :-)
