What does slashing a guy to death have to do with "true love"?

(I know this is somewhat off-topic, but I thought I'd have a better chance of the question being answered here)

Simple. It has to do with the Djinn's interpretation of love, not how humans view love.

The two women began slashing the guy to begin with because every wish the Djinn grants goes sour.
