Cheap feel to the movie

I know this wasn't meant as high art, but there's a very Cinemax-feel to this movie that kind of annoys me. If it didn't have Wes Craven's name on it, it wouldn't have been anything more than a cable movie.

I do like it, though.

I agree with everything, including the part that I liked it.

I must agree. The film had great effects, fun cameos and a unique concept, but it just couldn't rise above its made-for-TV look and bland performances from its leads.

reply

Except Andrew Divoff. That man is god.

reply

It basically felt like a long episode of Tales from the crypt.

reply

Yes. Well said.

Some parts look cheap.

Keep in mind, CGI was still in the infant stages when this film was made.

Also, I think the FX in the last party scene were pretty good.

To me, it had the feel of a horror movie too...but at the same time, the FX were really good.

CGI wasn't in infant stages at this point. T2, Jurassic Park, and a whole slew of CGI-laden films came out years before this. This was a low-budget film, so it didn't have the benefit of good CGI. That's simply what it comes down to. Had Wes Craven not put his name on it, it would have gone straight to video.

Totally (about the cable TV movie and tales from the crypt)
I think part 2 is better

*beep* movie, Not even worth owning

reply

Quite a few mid-to-late 90s horror films have that feel.

This film is odd in that is has good practical FX but is also quite flat looking.

reply

Cheap is right, it's like a bad episode of Tales from the Crypt stretched out to 90 minutes.
