Best H. James adaptation

IMO, two best H. James adaptations are " The Wings of the Dove" and " The Innocents"(1961). What's your pick?

My fave is "Portrait of a Lady" dir. by Jane Campion.

Washington Square, the 1997 one; and Under Heaven, a modernized version of Wings Of A Dove.

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies!

"Wings Of The Dove" is considered one of Henry James finest works. What is fabulous about this adaptation of the novel to the film is screenwriter Hossein Amini's ability to extract the story-line from James wandering, convoluted, often unintelligble prose style, and director Softley's talent in bringing the story to life on the screen in a way that the novel never can for the reader simply because of James self-indulgent messy prose.

Brilliantly put. James's turgid, incoherent prose was at its worst in his last novels. IMHO, this film was a lesson on how to adapt a novel to the screen. It was amazing in every aspect-acting,cinematography,art direction, costumes, and editing.

James's self-indulgent messy prose

Interesting way to describe one of America's greatest writers. BTW, I corrected your grammar.

The Innocents by far! I love the plot of TWOTD, but the movie was too cold in my opinion.
