The best football scenes in a movie (IMO)

So many films trying to portray a "realistic" sense of football, the game just seems so civil and tame. Example Remember the Titans, Varsity Blues, Any Given Sunday (better than most though) and the Longest Yard (both versions). It just seems working with a combination of actors and athletes, and again trying to make it seem genuine the seem to miss out on the fun of it.

On the other The Waterboy with its over the top plays, hits, and games seem to have finally done football right on film. Plus the speed with which they portray is by far the best of any movie I have seen.

Anyway one of my favorite sports movies just for the reasons stated above. But I am sure there is some movie out there I missed where they got the sport right. Would love to hear examples.

Here is a good movie that was made in the early 90's Necessary Roughness, Wild Cats I believe it is called with Goldie Hawn. Those are some great comedic football movies.

I agree. This movie is like what Rocky was too to boxing. Instead trying to do a bland, boring depication it took the sport to abusrd/cartoonish levels, and that's what makes it entertaining.

I watch real football every weekend during football season, so why would I want to see actors trying to pretend they are real football players. I'd rather see football elements taken to an absurd, over the top level.

Excellent point grantZilla. I'm the same with watching football every weekend, the giant hits by Sandler is whats helps make this movie so entertaining

the program was a great film about college ball, a bit melodramatic but the football stuff looked great.
