Why does everybody like to attack the government over the Waco siege? Undoubtedly the fire that ended the incident was horrible. Was it not Koresh who decided to build an arsenal to take on the government guns blazing?

reply

Exactly. People forget that Koresh's followers opened fire first. The ATF had no choice but to shoot back. The Davidians refused to surrender and kept firing. There were obviously flaws in the ATF's plan and mistakes were made during the chaos of the shootout, but that does not prove that there was any kind of government conspiracy against the Davidians. If we compare this case with the Beslan school siege, we can see that conspiracy theorists are making the same kind of leaps of logic, their argumentation is fallacious.

reply

The big problem for the government during the time of the Waco siege was that they were trying and had been for some time to fight two enemies at once in white supremacists/militias and islamic extremists. Shockingly enough you still find wackos wailing about the NWO and seem to be easily distracted from fighting Al Qaeda.

reply

I remember reading that the Delta Force were involved in the final assualt on the Branch Davidian compound which makes me wonder if the entire siege would have been more successful if they had been in charge from the start?

reply

We were fighting islamic extremists in 1993? I am sure the average person had never heard of Al Qaeda at that time.

reply

You didn't realise eh? Well I'll bet you'll be shocked as hell to read about Hezbollah's rise during the 80s (just to name one group) they may not have been Al Qaeda but they damn sure weren't Boy Scouts either. As for the average person they can read books or visit libraries but that would be too much like hard work for isolationists.

reply

The first WTC bombing was Feb 26, 1993.

"In the 1980s, terrorists affiliated with Hezbollah were responsible for most of the Americans taken hostage in Lebanon. The organization also supported the car bombers who killed 241 American marines in Beirut in 1983."

reply

I am aware of when the 1st WTC attack occurred and that sporadic attacks had been going on for years but to suggest that we were actively fighting Islamic terrorism is a stretch.

reply

Good point there. Pardon the unintended stretching and any offence caused on my part.

reply

No offence taken...cheers!

reply

Call me naive but I think we could wipe out terrorism better by duplicating the Marshall Plan in places like the Middle East. What do you guys think?

reply

The 9/11 hijackers were mainly from well to do families and were graduate students, Bin Laden's father was a billionaire. Their particular brand of extremism seems unrelated to class distinctions. How about the Manhattan Project?

Which side shot first is a matter of contention, and comes down to which side of the dispute you believe is telling the truth.

What is a well documented and indisputable fact is that one side - the government - had video and physical evidence that should have been able to prove who shot first, and the government destroyed that evidence, rather than allow it to be made public or reach a court of law. That would tend to make a reasonable person believe that the government is hiding/covering up something - much like Nixon's missing oval office tapes.

There is also the well documented fact that the ATF and FBI willfully deceived other government agencies, the press, and the American public about many aspects of this incident, even while it was ongoing. This would also tend to make a reasonable person doubt the ATF and FBI versions of the incident.

reply

Having an inventory of weapons is not illegal. You can call it an arsenal or stockpile, but that is you putting your own slant on it.
