What legal grounds did Truman have once he left the studio...

...to SUE CHRISTOF FOR BILLIONS, not to mention everyone else who was involved?

This movie absolutely ANGERS me because of the sheer abuse of an innocent individual at the hands of a so-called "visionary" director and showrunner.

reply

I figure it had to be an alternate universe where companies could do stuff like that. Otherwise, Cristof would have been arrested for attempted murder when he tried to drown Truman.

reply

It would have to be a very strange and completely different alternate universe, where there is no Internet or smartphones, and yet the technology exists to build massive domes with their own ecosystem, weather and astronomical phenomena that can fool everyone.

Come to think of it, the whole film's time period is difficult to discern: some parts look like the 1990s, but other parts look like the 1950s or even 1970s.

Theoretically the show could be even in 2050 or so, except the old TVs (and TV Tech in general), there is not much giving away the time. Trumans World could be even set in 1800 and nothing would be crazy. The Stuff which was advertized in the show is also stuff, which could be used as well in 2050 as in 1999.

Get a grip first of all. It’s a film, it’s not real. No point in getting angry because of fake people in a fake story.

Don’t worry though, somewhere in the real world, someone has attempted and probably succeeded in fooling a completely isolated person from birth to adulthood who and where they are and what life is.

He’s gonna talk to the judge about a writ of Habeas Corpus. He’ll put the SYSTEM(!) on trial.

Yeah, but you have to admit - "The Truman SHow' was a bit visionary. It was released in 1998. Around ten years later, reality shows had become a big thing.
