Did they WANT Sylvia tipping Truman off?

Something I'm not sure of, is that Sylvia as "Lauren" was some sort of extra who seemed to keep going out of her way to get Truman's attention. Even before the library scene she's twice seen being escorted out due to her actions, but for some reason they don't kick her out? and they let her get right next to him in the library?

It seems like they kept giving her chances to inform Truman. Did they want that to happen then.?

If that's the case it could be seen then as somewhat of a plot-hole. I mean they made it out to have cameras everywhere and again in the moments before she actually ran off with Truman, how exactly did they not realize she was literally right across from him in the library.

Partly agree.

Sitting close to Truman in the library is not a plot hole. But the fact she is in the library AND still talks to Truman or that she is still in the show at all IS a plot hole. In real life she'd have been fired or would've a serious talk after the dancing thing.

"She just somehow slipped through the cracks and even managed to sneak a button o"

What cracks? There aren't supposed to BE any cracks, and it would be ridiculously easy to make sure it remains that way.

The only cracks are in the movie, its plot, and all that. That there ARE cracks to 'slip through', is proof of the movie's plot being full of holes.

If the staff and the director did their job even 10% competently, Truman would never have found out the truth, nor would he ever have been able to escape. North Korea is easier to escape than properly created 'Truman Show set' would be.

But it's typical hollyweird 'lowest common denominator'-worship - bread and circuses for the masses .. not anything to take too seriously. If Jim Carrey wasn't in it, I wouldn't even want to watch it.

As they showed w/ the father storyline, they couldn't police everyone. There was the guys who weren't even extras who snuck on set (xmas gift). So doubt they figured 1 of there own would blab the truth.

Think there 1st concern w/ her is that she would become Mrs. Truman which they didn't plan for. Her being at library was perhaps her just being an extra like she has been doing. Sure they told her just to act uninterested in him so he'd end up w/ the other (perhaps more trained) actress.

What I wondered was, why didn't they let their love story progress naturally since they both were obviously interested in each other? Assuming they didn't know that she would reveal everything to him. It would be very tricky to "force" Truman into a relationship with Meryl who kept throwing herself at him when he clearly wasn't interested. But he obviously was very easily persuaded by others for his entire life.

Well, since Sylvia/Lauren actually cared about Truman and loved him, one moment she probably would have spilled the beans on his existence. (She wants her beloved to be happy...). Better to have someone who you can keep in check and has no reason to tell Truman the truth.

On the first couple incidences Sylvia didn't do anything major wrong. She was simply there and staring his way (band practice and dance). I suspect there were numerous employees that were guilty of doing this type of thing, so it wasn't beneficial to fire all of them.

The first incident where she was the cause of a big incident was the library/beach and she was fired at this point since she was "spilling the beans" big time.

I saw it as like those people that breach a confidentiality agreement: as long as you don't say anything, you're fine.
