This bit threw me off for a few reasons.

Who are the people in the car and how did they get there?

Were they justsitting there in the event that truman wold drive down that street?

Also, why did they dissappear so quickly? Just because Truman went round the roundabout?

The producers knew for some time that Truman considered leaving, so it's logical that they alerted cars for such a development. That the cars disappreared can only be explained by sloppiness - they thought Truman would give up after the first attempt.
