What was the point of the religious symbolism?

It really added nothing to the story. It seemed like it was there to try and make the film seem "deep".

In your opinion did the religious symbolism add anything of substance?

Sorry, I guess I missed the religious symbolism.

Wrong movie - religion played no role in this one.

1. Ed Harris talking to Truman on the outskirts of "the world" as if he was the voice of God himself.

2. The idea that it's better to live in ignorance than to know the full truth of what one is experiencing. Truman's innate curiosity as Human couldn't be quenched by dogma. Every time he came up against an external barrier discouraging him not to know the truth, he ignores them and finally walks through the door into the real world.

Very acute of you TC. Great movie.

Neither of those are examples of symbolism. And I think you meant astute.

Religion?

reply

To illustrate the notion that religion is one of those things that keeps you in a fragmentary fake world.

reply

I thought it added to the movie.

reply

Because Ed Harris can’t swim.
