Have you not seen the movie? You don't seem to realize the villain was a mass murderer (the missile was aimed at Beijing) and you don't know how the movie ends.

It's a Bond movie, so Bond happened. Specifically he was given some detonators by Wai Lin which he attached to the back of the rocket. When the rocket fired the flames ignited the detonators which blew up the missile... and Stamper.

Lust for power, such a noble trait.

He was the puppet master behind what he hoped would be a third World War just so he could basically dominate the media. He's not quite Hugo Drax levels of evil, but he's up there with some of the most twisted Bond villains.

He was a very wicked man. this is clearly shown early on, when he has all those sailors shot. Not a nice person.

reply

He was a straight up grade-A hemorrhoidal ass hole

Dude was messed up, he wanted to star WWIII to boost ratings for his company's content. Definitely evil.

I'd say he was the most blatantly, unambiguously evil villain in the Bond films since Max Zorin. His motive is purely megalomaniacal (unlike Alec Trevelyan who was partly motivated by feeling betrayed), he has no sense of loyalty to those that work for him (unlike Franz Sanchez), he's cartoonishly narcissistic and quick to anger, and his scheme would quite possibly lead to nuclear war for no greater goal than boosting his media empire.

I think Jonathan Pryce put in an entertaining performance, but I was half-expecting a scene where Carver goes "muhahahahahaha."
