God, what a drop in quality from Goldeneye!

Yeah, budget-wise it's a step up, but Cubby's gone and the kids are running the show now, and you can literally see the transition about half an hour in. It suddenly turns into a joke fest with terrible action scenes, terrible Bond Girls, the most generic mid-90s techno score.

And the fights! My god, the fights! GE had possibly the best fight in the series between Bond and Trevelyan on the satellite dish, and in this one Vic "Bland is just fine with me, kiddo!" Armstrong turns Bond into the biggest pansy. He literally has one move: grab the guy by the lapels and punch him--which of course leads to him repeatedly getting his ass kicked.

"Consider him slimed."

Ugh, so frustrating this movie! Still better than Skyfall though.

Actually the kids were running the show at GoldenEye already, Cubby was too ill. GoldenEye had better script and better fights because the script was made for Dalton, Tomorrow never dies is made for Brosnan.

In Finland we have this thing called "reilu meininki"

GoldenEye was the last 'classic' Bond movie I agree that it was probably written for Dalton in mind but Pierce is no slouch either. This flick suffers from its villain, Carver has gotta be the lamest ever.....a guy who sells newspapers.............:-|

Fav comic book films ever:
Captain America: Winter Solider
Batman Begins
Iron Man
Blade

Not so ridiculous and actually prophetic. Look how the Counterfeit News Network (CNN) is manipulating the entire world!

reply

He was still around and somewhat involved though. (Cubby always championed Dalton and his "darker" take on the role, whereas Michael Wilson is on record as saying the light-hearted Moore films are his favorite.)

Agreed

reply

I would agree that goldeneye was way better.

Dude... Bind and Wei Lin jumped through a separate pane of glass with a metal divider between the two panes and the twi of them were HANDCUFFED together. It's like the production crew didn't care.

reply

The metal divider between windows is not that strong. Had they broke the frame around the windows, that would be a different story. But without the glass in place, that center frame becomes weaker. Same principle as the dividers between glass on a hockey rink.

All the Daniel Craig bond movies are not like bond movies even worse than the movie you're stating. What a terrible movie that skyfall is.

reply

Agreed. And yes, skyfall is juuust awful.

reply

Terrible bond girls? Michelle Yeoh is one of the best bond girls. The girl in Goldeneye failed to create complex codes to stop the satellite.

reply

The reason of the drop in quality was because there was huge pressure to recreate GoldenEye's success in its follow up film. The whole film was compromised from the beginning. They wanted the films release to coincide with MGM's public stock offering.

You sound like Boris. ;)

She's a butterface who kicks a couple of guys in one scene then does nothing else of value for the rest of the movie.

There is a man...he travels fast...he has purpose...he brings violence and destruction.

reply

Nothing of value?

- Helps Bond on the bike (barrels, gives him another pair of eyes, etc.)
- Provides Bond with intelligence on General Chang
- Organises travel on the back of another boat.
- Provides equipment for their assault.
- Aids Bond on the stealth boat (gives him the detonators, minimising the offences, slows the stealth boat to make it an easy target for the navy, etc.)

I'd say she's one of the more helpful Bond girls... Much more useful than Honey Ryder, Mary Goodnight, Aki and Domino)

Michelle Yeoh a butterface? What?

reply

Michelle Yeoh is an awful "Bond girl" (she's not even that, she's just being one of her kung fu movie characters) and yeah, she's a total butterface.

reply

I think it's a step up from the overrated GoldenEye. GE has a very weak third act, very bad miniatures and special effects, and most importantly the plot and character motivations make absolutely no sense.

reply

Nope, GoldenEye was Brosnan's best. Better special effects are not enough to make a better movie. The main villain in this movie was just lame and boring.

reply

Well, I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be, but I do think it relies too much on big action scenes instead of the storyline and character interaction.

reply

Practically any film would be a drop in quality from GoldenEye (one of the most awesome films of all time). It's an unfair measuring stick. Compare this film to some of the others in the Bond saga and it's perfectly fine.
