shareWhen Linklater said last year in March at the SXSW festival that subUrbia would be out on DVd next September, everyone thought he meant Sept 07. I mean how long does it take to put out a DVD? It has been the most anticipated DVD ever as it has been nearly 12 years since it was made. Those who haven't managed to see it on VHS must be bursting with anticipation. It's not coming out on Criterion, but Linklater hopes WB will out criterion etc. I only hope that there are some fabulous bonus material, and that the stars of the show get to participate and that there is heaps of out takes. Can't wait.I only wish Linklater could update when exactly it will be.
shareto ViolaChild..... when someone is interviewed in MARCH 07 and says "that dvd will be out NEXT Sept" most people think SEPT 08 because he said NEXT....if he meant Sept07 he would have said "this Sept". I know its more wishful thinking of people that probably overlooked the word NEXT and just assumed. I know its a bit odd to announce a dvd release a year and half early, but if he is trying to make it near Criterion quality then it does take time to get all the bonus features together...especially if deleated scenes and such, or audition tapes or anything like that, they have to go thru and clean them up and everything.
shareI hope Linklater, Ribisi, Katt, and Posey all do a commentary for this flick. That'd be amazing.

It would. That way the movie will make it's way to a new audiance too. This movie deserves it.
shareThe DVD better have plenty of bonus material like the Criterion version of his other flicks, he puts everything into them inc. the kitchen sink. it's a pity subUrbia wan't treated as well as Slacker and Dazed and Confused, it would have made a great trilogy package.
shareactually my wet dream is of an actor commentary (with or without link) and a second track with linklater and bogosian....
even though at this point, even a bare bones dvd would be better than nothing... as long as it's widescreen!!!! i happen to have a vhs of the film, and i'v been lucky enough to be able to watch it whenever i want.... but 10 years of full screen is about all i can take, specially after having seen it 7 times inb theatre....
This showed up late last night in high definition on HBO. I'm watching it off my DVR right now and it looks pretty sharp. I mean, I've only ever seen it on vhs before, but this is the best I've ever seen it. The opening credits are a little grainy but after that it looks really good with very vibrant colors. I have to hope this means a dvd is FINALLY getting close.
