Huh? SubUrbia is based on a play, that's why it's all talking and takes place mostly in one location. And Richard Linklater directed the film version of SubUrbia btw, and if you guys didn't know, Richard Linklater is the influence that made Kevin Smith interested in making films. Hence, Kevin Smith is copying Richard Linklater, not the other way around. His first film was "Slacker" which is ALL talking and no narrative plot. That's the movie Kevin Smith watched when he worked at RST Video/Quick Stop that made him want to be a filmmaker, and realize he could actually make a no-budget movie. Linklater is THE GUY that started the 90's indie film trend that spawned not only Kevin Smith, but also Quentin Tarantino. I like both just as much, so not bashing one or the other, just wanted to point out the facts. Kevin Smith is a HUGE Richard Linklater fan. And to the person who said Kevin Smith came first, huh? This movie is not written by Richard Linklater, it was a play that came out in 1994 written by Eric Bogosian, the same year "Clerks" came out. Linklater just made the film version. Bogosian obviously had never heard of Kevin Smith (nor had anyone else yet) when he wrote the play in, yes that's right, 1986! So please, I'd love to hear everyone's theory on how a playwriter copies Kevin Smith when it was written 8 years before Smith's first film, and the film version was made by Smith's biggest influence as a director. Please, indulge all of us. Even ask Kevin Smith, cause he'll tell you the same exact thing (not to mention he he references Linklater in "Mallrats" in the book store).
