how this is at all a comedy. i liked this movie, but it is not even close to being a comedy...a few funny moments, or a funyn character does not make a movie a comedy...this is such a bleak film, i just dont see how its a comedy...the situation everyone is in is far from comedic, which i understand can be presented in a funny way, but isnt in this flick, the characters are all going no where, and this film doesnt make a joke out of it...its just such a harsh drama...

anyone agree?

i agree with you. i never saw it as a comedy either.

You used the perfect word to describe this movie, BLEAK. It is definitely not a comedy. If I'm in a sad or bad mood I definitely do not watch this one because it can be such a downer!

It's a drama/tragedy with comedic undertones.
For the first half or so, there is enough humor that I would call it a drama/comedy hybrid, but the second half of the film definitely turns into a more or less straight drama, building up to the tragic ending.
The way that it is that difficult to define is to me what makes it such a strong and unique film. It doesn't play by the rules of genre definition, and that is extremely refreshing.

But yes, anyone who comes into this movie expecting a comedy will be thrown for a major loop.

hasn't your life ever been so screwed up that you can't do anything but laugh? like it's all just a bad joke? that's the kind of comedy it was for me.

it is a comedy, look up the definition.
