The Criterion Collection...

...needs to get their asses on releasing this great movie in a respectable format.

Agreed! It's always been rumored to be coming but who knows...

In the mid 2000's (I want to say 2007/2008), they were collaborating with Richard Linklater, and had Marc English designing cover art for its release. Haven't heard anything about it since.

Steve Zahn was asked about a home video release of this film in an interview, if you're curious what he had to say: http://youtu.be/ESS6JbzsaRY?t=13m20s)

No DVD yet, but iTunes and Amazon have this in Full HD. It looks really good, better than any DVD, actually. Though, as expected, there are no extras. :(

I didn't care much for the movie when I rented it several years ago, but I was going through a difficult time then. The praise on this board is giving me reason to give it another watch.

reply

Give it another watch. This and Before Sunrise are my favorites from the director.

I'm generally a fan of Linklater and generally open to revisiting his works. The Before movies are standout entries in an overall strong filmography.

For the average person, I think Before Sunrise is a pretentious and annoying film. It's in my personal top 5 favorite films ever though. It's as if Linklater knows me and understands what I struggle with. Linklater is my favorite director because he acts so personal. Sunrise is more ambitious than Sunset and Midnight, and I think it will only continue to become more valuable in time. In 2018, I really think relationships are disappearing and it is scary.

Love this film so much. Deserves a bluray release. Would love to see it in high def.
